Scottish Brewers Ltd were formed in 1931 as a result of a merger between:

* [[William Younger & Co. Ltd]], Abbey & Holyrood Breweries, Edinburgh
 
[[Thomas & James Bernard Ltd]] of Edinburgh were acquired in April 1960 and that brewery was closed.

In 1960, they merged with Newcastle Breweries Ltd to form Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd.
