The Salopian Brewery was founded as the Snowdonia Brewery in 1994 by Martin Barry at his pub in North Wales. In 1995 he relocated to Shrewsbury and renamed it Salopian (the name used for people from Shropshire or Shrewsbury dependant on who you talk to /or listen to). At that time it was the smallest commercial brewery in the country not attached to a pub, It had a two barrel capacity.

After two years trading Wilf Nelson joined the company (current Managing Director 2019), much of the brewing was for bottling- mainly Oddbins and Safeways- the change and advent of progressive beer duty in 2002 allowed the brewery to concentrate on it’s own cask beer production. Barry left in 2004 and Mark Hill of Brewers Wholesale became a partner. At this stage production was all into cask predominately a blonde and lightly hopped version .Over this period the capacity brewed grew from 10 barrels(2000) to 15 (2005) to 20 (2007).

In 2008 Jake Douglas joined changes were made in the beer production with a movement more towards the more hop led style of brewing. This resulted in an almost tripling of the production and in 2010 a new 30 barrel brewery was installed.

In 2014 it was producing 145 barrels per week, then the brewery relocated to Hadnall with a purpose built 50 barrel plant
