Robert Cain & Sons Ltd, Mersey Brewery, Stanhope Street, Toxteth, Liverpool, Merseyside.

Founded 1848 when Robert Cain acquired a small brewery in Limekiln Lane. The Mersey Brewery acquired ca. 1850. First listed in Stanhope Street in 1862. Private company registered December 1896 with 200 tied houses.

Merged with Walkers of Warrington with 345 houses in September 1921 to form Peter Walker & Robert Cain Ltd, then to become Walker Cain Ltd and brewing was concentrated at Warrington in 1923.

In 1923, the Mersey Brewery was sold to Higson's Brewery Ltd.

Following the closure of Higson's Brewery at the site, a later Robert Cain Brewery was established in 1990.
