A merger in March 1960 of:

Cornbrook Brewery Co. Ltd of Manchester was acquired in 1961 with 270 houses in 1961 and brewing ceased there in 1973.

They acquired Catterall & Swarbrick of Blackpool with 104 public houses in 1961. This brewery was closed by Bass Charrington in 1971.

In 1961, they also acquired Hewitt Brothers Ltd of Grimsby, which was closed in 1968.

In 1962, they acquired Hardy's Crown Brewery Ltd of Hulme, Manchester; this brewery was demolished by Charrington United in 1965.

In October 1962, Northern Breweries became United Breweries Ltd

In 1962 they merged with Charrington & Co. Ltd of Mile End London to form Charrington United Breweries Ltd.
