Founded 1700. Registered 1911 and traded as City & St.Anne's (Norman & Pring) Ltd. Acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd. April 1962 with 102 tied houses and the business was merged with Starkey, Knight & Ford Ltd. 1964. Brewing ceased at the City Brewery in 1956 when production was concentrated at the St.Anne's Well Brewery, but bottling continued until 1968 when the brewery burnt down.
