Moorhouses made hop bitters from 1865 until 1978. It was bought by Michael Ryan who started brewing beer. The business passed to Alan Hutchinson with a chain of hotels to supply in 1982. Bill Parkinson bought it in 1985
The brewery makes much play from the Pendle Witches. Ten unfortunates were hanged for witchcraft back in 1612

Premier Bitter was first brewed in 1978 and is still the biggest seller

There is 370brl of fermenting capacity and some 13,000brl are brewed annually
