One of the last pubs in Leicestershire to brew its own beer.
One of the last pubs in Leicestershire to brew its own beer. Owned by Merton College, Oxford until 1963, when they sold it to the landlord.
 


John Carnall was brewing here in 1904. In 1955, Harry Oswin was brewing every three weeks. The last brew was in December 1956.


After many years trading as a free house, it was sold to Thwaites of Blackburn.

Malt Shovel, 27 Main Street, Barkby, Leicestershire

One of the last pubs in Leicestershire to brew its own beer. Owned by Merton College, Oxford until 1963, when they sold it to the landlord.

John Carnall was brewing here in 1904. In 1955, Harry Oswin was brewing every three weeks. The last brew was in December 1956.
