Founded by 1830 when James Maclay leased the Mill Brewery. The Thistle Brewery was built in 1870 and the Mill Brewery was leased to [[Robert Henderson & Co. Ltd]]. Registered in 1897.
They closed their brewery in 1999 but continued to trade independently as a pub company. [[Forth Brewing Co]] was founded by members of staff which for a while brewed Maclay beers. All Maclay beer was then brewed by the [[Belhaven Brewery Co. Ltd.]] and the Thistle Brewery has since been demolished.

Maclay & Co. Ltd, Thistle Brewery, 1 Junction Place, Alloa, Clackmannanshire
