Acquired by Vaux Breweries Ltd. 1946.
The Thomas Usher estate of 214 tied houses were sold to Allied Breweries in 1980. Vaux ceased brewing here in 1987 and it is now operated as the Caledonian Brewery Co. Ltd, Slateford Road.

In 2004 Scottish & Newcastle, having decided to close the Fountain Brewery, took a 30% share and contracted for the brewing of their beers.
