Founded 1773 when Elizabeth Metcalfe inherited the George Inn.

In 1909, arrangements made to amalgamate with John Smith's Tadcaster Brewery Co. Ltd and offered for sale in 1910 with 16 public houses.

Brewing ceased 1912 and 50 barrel plant for sale 10th June.
