John Fowler & Co. Ltd, High Street, Prestonpans, Lothian.

Founded in about 1720 in a former whisky distillery. Registered 1865.

Acquired by Northern Breweries of Great Britain Ltd in April 1960 with 36 public houses. Brewing ceased in March 1962.

The Fowler's name was subsequently used by the microbrewery Fowler's Ale (Prestoungrange) Ltd at the Gothenburg pub, Prestonpans, where there is some historical material displayed.


The brewery features in The Noted Breweries of Great Britain and Ireland by Alfred Barnard published 1890.
