John Bull, Harwich, Essex.

On 16th December, 1840, a conveyance was made between St Nicholas Church Commissioners to John Bull of property to the East of the churchyard and on King's Quay Street.

On 10th February, 1842, and indenture between the Mayor and Aldermen with John Bull of Upper Standford Street, Blackfriars Road, Surrey, for a building adjacent to the recent workhouse, recently purchased by John Bull and now converted into a "Brew Office size 5 feet East to West width 9 feet North to South", abutting the said Brew Office, which was in the occupation of John Bull and William John Bull.

On 15th October, 1844. John Bull made a conveyance to John Cobbold, to be followed during the next three years by assignments to Samuel Graham, Godfrey Freeman to Abraham Jordan. The 25th April, 1863, the trustees of the Will of Samuel, Graham assigned to John Chevallier Cobbold and a further conveyance from the Corporation of Harwich to J.C. Cobbold was made on 24th April, 1873. John C Cobbold was seized for an estate of inheritance in fee simple on 9th June, 1873, with the property being conveyed to The Eclesiastical Commissioners for England.

The brewery premises were a square, with buildings on three sides forming a "U" shape around a yard. The brewery extended down one entire side, faced by a beer house on the other yard entrance, with the brewer's house adjacent, and a store backing onto St Nicholas churchyard.
