James Calder & Co. (Brewers) Ltd, Shore Brewery, Whins Road, Alloa, Clackmannanshire

Brewery built 1816 by John McNellan and was acquired by James Calder in 1862.

Registered 1905 as James Calder & Co.(Alloa) Ltd. Re-registered as above in 1920.

Brewing ceased in 1921 and beer was supplied by Archibald Arrol & Sons Ltd until 1951 when John Jeffrey & Co. Ltd. brewed for them after the conversion of the Alloa Brewery into a lager only plant.

Acquired by Northern Breweries of Great Britain Ltd in 1960, and brewing ceased.

The original Shore Brewery has been demolished.


The brewery features in The Noted Breweries of Great Britain and Ireland by Alfred Barnard published 1890.
