Founded by John Lees at Middleton Junction in 1828. The brewhouse was rebuilt about 50 years later.
Registered in 1936 to acquire J W Lees & Co. Reconstructed company registered November 1955.
Still independent.
The brewery features in The Noted Breweries of Great Britain and Ireland by Alfred Barnard published 1890.
