J & A Orrell, Great Northern Hotel, 7 Wakefield Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Acquired by Leeds & Wakefield Breweries Ltd. 1925.

Demolished for road redevelopment in late 1980s.

Malcolm Toft writes:-

The Orrell family (Arthur, James, and mother Mary) came to the house c1895 as tenants for “a well known private family”.

Previously they had been at the Leeds Arms, 8 Vicar Lane, Bradford. There Arthur had been brewer with his brother and mother also working at the inn. Arthur died in 1910 aged 54 and weighing twenty-two stone. The concern lasted another fourteen years before being acquired by Leeds & Wakefield Breweries Ltd in 1925.

The building has now been demolished.
