Greenall Whitley's first brewery was founded in St Helens in 1762; this closed in 1975. See Greenall Whitley (St Helens).

The Warrington (Wilderspool) brewery was established in 1787. In 1990, the company closed its breweries at Warrington and Nottingham to become a pub chain, which was later itself bought.

Most of the Wilderspool Brewery was demolished in 1993 but the offices remain.
