George Rochester

George Rochester, William IV public house, 8 Vantout Road, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.

Brewing at the pub from about 1852 to 1865. Acquired by Chaplin & Co. Ltd of Harlow in 1886.

However, Rochester carried on as a brewer at the George IV in Knight Street, followed by his son Henry until at least 1906, presumably supplying off-sales only.

Brewery remains as the Masonic Hall.
