Gardner & Co. Ltd, Ash Brewery, Sandwich Road, Ash, Kent.

Founded 1837 when George or Thomas Bushell converted the parish workhouse into a brewery.

Acquired by William Gardner 1840 with 49 tied houses. Traded as Gardner and Godden from 1858.

Registered 1898.

Amalgamated with Tomson & Wotton Ltd. of Ramsgate 1951 to form Combined Breweries (Holdings) Ltd, which was acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd. June 1968.

Brewing ceased at Ash in 1954, although ginger beer production continued until 1962.

Brewhouse demolished but traces remain.
