First listed here in 1877.  
In 1877 Elizabeth Fairhurst at the Brewers Arms, 61 Chapel Lane, noting that there were family links with Swifts, previously brewers.  


Private company registered 1915. 57 of their tied houses were offered for sale 8th April 1920, 11 being sold for £66,700, 6 of these to [[Walker Cain Ltd]], the remainder were withdrawn.  
James mentioned in 1878 and in 1895 his son Thomas, until his death in February 1912.
