Registered November 1887. Acquired by Rhondda Valley Breweries Co. Ltd. 1920 who then changed their name to Rhondda Valley & Ely Breweries Ltd and to Ely Brewery Co. Ltd. in 1928.

Acquired by Rhymney Breweries Ltd in 1959 with 256 public houses.

The brewery was closed by Whitbread in 1982.
