Founded by John Miles in about 1940. In 1863, the brewing capacity was expanded with a new brewery on the opposite corner of Eldon and King Streets. By 1874, the company was known as John Miles and Son.

Founded by John Miles in about 1940. In 1863, the brewing capacity was expanded with a new brewery on the opposite corner of Eldon and King Streets. By 1874, the company was known as John Miles and Son.

In 1896, the brewery and its tied estate was sold to William Dupree, and became the home of Portsmouth & Brighton United Breweries Ltd.
