  • John Mercer Ltd, Plough Brewery, Adlington was taken over in March 1929. Brewing ceased 1936.
  • They acquired the Kirkstall Brewery Co Ltd of Leeds in 1936 with 83 public houses, although Kirkstall Brewery was later sold to Whitbread.
