Daniel Fowler & Son, Boot and Shoe, The Street, South Luffenham, Rutland

Postcards of the village show the rear of the pub, with a signboard stating “Genuine Home Brewed Ale”, with Elizabeth Fowler as the licensee. This would seem to be where from 1876 to 1895, Daniel Fowler was listed as a baker, grocer and beer retailer. From 1876 to 1880 Donald Fowler was listed for the Boot & Shoe.

From 1895 they were trading as Daniel & Son and still retailing beer, but in 1904, the business was listed as the exors of the Fowlers and this seems to be the last entry for them. The pub, which has not been externally altered for over a century, is still trading in the village centre.
