Coach & Horses, 2 Leicester Road, Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire LE8 0NN

The pub is thought to date back to the eighteenth century. Charles Edward Bolton was listed as the brewer in 1876-81; however, the 1891 census listed only a Georgina Bolton living on Main Street. She was described as the head of household, which suggests that her husband had died and they had left the pub.

All Saints Brewery Co. (Leicester) Ltd bought the pub in July 1897, but only sold the brewing plant in 1916.

Mike Brown writes:-

From 1835 to 1848, Jonathan Woodford was at the pub, which is thought to date back to the eighteenth century. Mrs Mary Woodford was at the Coach and Horses in 1855. Then in 1863, it was being run by Joseph Morris Coleman, before he moved to the Fox and Hounds. In 1870, Thomas Wilford was at the Coach and Horses until 1876, when Bolton took over. The latter was listed as the brewer in 1876-81. In 1875, he was advertising his home brewed ales in the Harrod’s directory.

However, the 1891 census listed only a Georgina Bolton living on Main Street. She was described as the head of household, which suggests that her husband had died and they had left the pub. Her son, Charles Edward aged 5, had been born in Medbourne and she had a seven year-old daughter born in Surrey, all of which implies that they may have left the pub and the village some years previously.

The All Saints Brewery bought the pub in July 1897, but only sold the brewing plant in 1916, which suggests they may have continued to brew there. It was later supplied by Ansells.
