Charles Arkcoll & Co, Lion Brewery, High Street, Chatham, Kent.
Bought James Hulkes' brewery in 1877 and named it the Lion Brewery. Upon the death of Charles Arkcoll junior in 1912, the business was sold at auction to A J Brown, trading as Owen J Carter, wine and spirit merchants for £75,000. He resold the licensed houses to Style & Winch Ltd.
Some buildings remain to the rear of the Ship Inn.
