An advert from 1860

Cardwell & Co. Ltd, Naval Brewery, Junction Street, Hulme, Manchester, Greater Manchester.

Founded c.1850 by Hargreaves Brothers and used by them until 1876 when acquired by Renshaw & Cardwell.

The Chester Road Brewery Co. Ltd was registered April 1889 to acquire Joseph Cox, 219 Chester Road.

In July 1889 the name was changed to Cox's Brewery Ltd and in May 1894 the business of Henry Cardwell was acquired and the name was changed again as above. Brewing was then concentrated at the Naval Brewery.

In July 1899 Wilsons Brewery Ltd acquired Cardwell & Co. Ltd, then in liquidation. The premises were later used by Swales & Co. Ltd.
