Founded in 1859 by E P Brett, who converted a former oil cake mill and chemist's warehouse into a brewery. Traded as Brett Brothers from 1869. Acquired by [[John J. Hunt Ltd]]. 1897 with 12 freehold and 3 leasehold pubs for £74,000.
