Barclay, Perkins & Co. Ltd, Park Street, London SE1.

Founded 1616 by James Monger and became Barclay, Perkins in 1781.

Registered June 1896.

Merged with Courage & Co. Ltd. 1955 to form Courage & Barclay Ltd.

Brewing other than lager ceased 1958 and the site was then rebuilt as a bottling plant. Lager brewing ceased 1962/3, probably on the opening of the Harp plant at Alton and the Park Street site was later redeveloped.



The brewery features in The Noted Breweries of Great Britain and Ireland by Alfred Barnard published 1890.


Anchor Terrace is a listed building and plaques have been erected in the area to record the history of the brewery, see images below.

This "International Incident" plaque reads: AN INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT OCCURRED HERE - 1850. GENERAL HAYNAU "THE AUSTRIAN BUTCHER" WAS RECOGNISED AND ATTACKED BY BARCLAY & PARKINS DRAYMEN
