Archers Ales Ltd, Station Industrial Estate, London Street, Swindon, Wiltshire

Founded in June 1979 by Mark Wallington in a former Great Western Railway shed. Initially a full-mash 12-barrel Peter Austin plant.

Brewing ceased here in 1996 when the brewery moved premises.

Brewing commenced in 1996 following the move.

The site was a re-creation of a Victorian tower brewery in the old locomotive weighing house of the old Swindon Locomotive Works. It was purchased by pub owning group Burns Leisure in 1999 and for a period in 2000 took on the brewing of the group owned Hoskins Ltd beers.

At some time, the brewery owned or leased:

  • Drillmans Arms, 34 Gloucester Road, Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
  • Old Town Tavern / Railway, 14 Newport Street, Old Town, Swindon, Wiltshire.
  • The Glue Pot, 5 Emlyn Square, Swindon, Wiltshire.
  • The Kemble Brewery Inn, 27 Fairview Street, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
  • The Carters Rest, 57 High Street, Wroughton, Swindon, Wiltshire.
  • Duke of Albany, 51 Park Street, Weymouth, Dorset. Formerly an Eldridge Pope house. See: Duke of Albany, Weymouth

In administration 2007 and 2009. The brewery closed in March 2009. Part of the site later used by Weighbridge Brewhouse.
