Alfred Leney & Co. Ltd, Phoenix Brewery, Dolphin Lane, Dover, Kent

Founded in 1740. Offered for sale in 1859 with 30 houses by trustees of late Thomas Walker & bought by Alfred Leney & James Evenden of Wateringbury.

Registered in December 1896.

Acquired by Fremlins Ltd in 1926 and brewing ceased in 1927. The business continued as Leney's Table Waters Ltd, registered in 1927, until 1950.

The brewery was demolished in 1965. Redevelopment of the site for commercial purposes (shops, hotel, etc) commenced in 2017.


The brewery features in The Noted Breweries of Great Britain and Ireland by Alfred Barnard published 1890.
