In 1818 Thomas Bokenham bought the Swan and made alterations, but in 1825 debts caused a sale of the brewery at the rear to William Crisp for £350.

William Crisp rebuilt and ran it to his death in 1844.

On 21st November 1872 5qtr Sole Bay Brewery and inn, owners retiring, sold privately and taken by George & Ernest Michael Adnams from Newbury. See Adnams & Son.
