King William Brewery, (aka Sussex Street Brewery), St Phillips, Bristol, Gloucestershire

The King William Brewery was foundedc. 1856 by Edward Stretton at the back ofWilliam the Fourth Tavern in Folly Lane,St.Philips, Bristol. Richard Jones and FrederickDowding lease the brewery from EdwardStretton when he retires in 1875, but thepartnership is short lived and is dissolvedin 1880. Richard Jones continues at thebrewery until his death in 1890, when,following failed attempts to sell the brew-ery, it closes in 1891.

Listed in 1875 at what was the former Stretton’s King William Brewery.

Partnership dissolved 1880. Then Frederick W Dowding, Bedminster, Jones’ brother in law, liquidated 1882.

Advert in 1890 offering for lease, Sussex Street brewery operated until his demise by Richard Jones.
