Owned by Aylmer Allen in 1715 then his son, Edward Allen. Acquired by Beamish & Crawford 1791. For many years the largest brewery in Ireland until overtaken by Guinness in 1838. Registered as a private company in 1895 and a public one in October 1901.
Acquired by Canadian Breweries (Carling O'Keefe) in 1962 and via Fosters/Courage, became part of Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd, then Heineken.
Closed in 2009.
