Founded by John Brown in 1826. Sold to Locke & Smith Ltd of Berkhamsted 1898 and the brewery became a slaughterhouse.

Some parts remain intact.

John Brown's Maltings have been redeveloped as a small housing estate, but a plaque is displayed.
