Founded in 1986 by Peter Yates, who was formerly head brewer at Jennings in Cockermouth. It began as a home-built 8-barrel plant.
Taken over in 1998 by Graeme and Caroline Baxter, who previously owned High Force Brewery and Hotel in County Durham. Also traded as Yates & Baxter. Closed in 2017 on retirement of the owners.
Beer was reportedly brewed at Ghyll Farm in the early 20th century.
