Founded before 1882 when acquired by Francis Hartridge. The Hartridge family had brewed in Kent in the 17th-18th centuries.
The main buildings were destroyed by bombing in 1940 and brewing ceased. Continues as a soft drinks manufacturer.
In 1991, the Hartridge family established the Island Brewery (Newport) on the Isle of Wight.
